Beginning at sea level and winding upwards into the rugged coastal mountains and lush rainforest, the Sea-to-Sky highway takes you on a journey through one of the most scenic spots in Canada. There are many nature stops, picnic areas, historical sites along the way, but the trip would not be complete without tthe stop at Porteau Cove.
WHAT TO DO: PORTEAU COVE

ituated on the most southerly fjord (long, deep and narrow body of water that reaches far inland) in North America, Porteau Cove provides a unique view of the Howe Sound and of the mountains beyond.
Stepping out from your vehicle, you will notice a lush grassy area for a quick picnic, and you will see the ocean-front campground. As you breathe in the fresh ocean air, you will be drawn towards the stunning ocean views. Walk along the mooring, cycle the trails, or just relax.
Porteau Cove is amazing by day and by night! By day: put on your scuba equipment and head into the water to explore the underwater world of a man-made reef and two sunken vessels.
By night: If you can stay the night, book a campsite with an ocean view! There are also 2 fully furnished beachfront log cabins (sleeps 4) available for rent. Cook up a BBQ supper and enjoy it on your private deck while you await for darkness to fall. This is one of the most ideal, and popular, areas for stargazing. View subtle details and contrast as the stars and moon illuminate against the pitch black sky.

WHAT TO SEE: SHANNON FALLS

wo miles south, you will find Shannon Falls. This 87 hectare park is filled with hikes with one leading to the third highest waterfall in British Columbia. Originating from the alpine summit below Sky Pilot Mountain and the Stadium Glacier, Shannon Creek thunders ahead and plunges down 335 meters over the rocky cliffs to the valley below. A short and easy hike through fir and towering red cedar trees will take you to the base of the falls. Feel the mist cool your face. Hear the deafening roar of the falls. You will soon know why this is a bucket list spot.

fter hiking up and enjoying the falls, drive into the neighboring town of Squamish for lunch. There are many choices, but one unique place is Mag's 99 Fried Chicken and Mexican Cantina. This is not your "average" fast-food stop. Fresh ingredients are used in compiling a one-of-a-kind menu.....you can't go wrong with the chicken poutine! Fresh, crispy, seasoned fries are loaded with their famous chicken and smothered in smooth gravy. The portions are large, so bring your appetite.
WHAT TO SEE: BRANDYWINE FALLS

brandywine Falls is one of the most photographed waterfalls in Canada!
The name is unique and has significant meaning. It is believed that two surveyors had a bit of a spat over the height of the falls. These two men each made their guess on the height before it was completely measured with a chain. It was found to be 70 meters. The individual with the closest number would win a bottle of brandy(wine). Once the height was confirmed, it was decided to call the falls Brandywine.
Brandywine Falls is steeped in history, surrounded in breathtaking views including Daisy Lake. Hiking, picnicing, mountain biking can all be part of the experience.
Of interest, in 2010, the park was tripled in size to include habitat for the at risk species -red-legged frogs.
